The Research Unit Neurobiology & Development at the CNRS Research Center of Gif-sur-Yvette carries out scientific research answering fundamental questions about neurogenesis, brain morphogenesis and integrated neural functions. We study these issues mostly in whole organisms as diverse as fruit flies, ascidia, frogs, chickens, mice and a several fishes. We use a wide variety of approaches at multiple scales of analysis combining molecular biology, genetics, embryology, evolutionary biology, neurophysiology, behavioral studies with highly advanced techniques and equipments.
It is part of the Institute of Neurobiology Alfred Fessard (INAF) and has tight links with the University Paris-Sud at Orsay. The main objective of the Unit is to establish a stimulating environment to creativity and originality in neuroscience, promoting synergy between teams and taking advantage of their diversity. The scientific questions tackled by the Unit also prompted the development of original methodological tools and platforms associated to the Unit or to the Institute of Neurobiology Alfred Fessard.
